Art + Commentary : Bruce Lowell
Just like artist Bright Tetteh Ackwerh did with Art + Commentary contribution,
LEGO artist Bruce Lowell accepted the platform to talk about his top 5 of his creative work.
I bought my wife a real KitchenAid mixer for Christmas. We liked the classic look of the red mixer, and I thought it might translate well into LEGO. I got the idea to use the clear bowl piece after the mixer was completed, so it was a lucky coincidence that it perfectly fit the scale of the mixer.
I was painting my house late last year, so I had a few paint rollers lying around. I looked at one and visualized it in LEGO, so I built it as soon as I could. I thought it might be a cool idea to have it “painting” a LEGO pattern in the picture, and I'm pretty happy with the result.
I’ve had the idea for this for about ten years, when I first designed the sphere that the hot dog is based off.
Now having finally completed it, with the wider variety of parts available compared to ten years ago,
I could not have asked for a better result.
The effect of the lines in the paper is achieved by the smooth tiles on top, which have very slightly curved edge around the top. This was built for a contest I was involved in, in which the seed parts were the blue pieces used for the spiral. Although I was really happy with how the notepad turned out, my favorite touch is the tiny pencil and eraser.
I got the idea for this when taking my baby to the pediatrician. It was a fun exercise in color and design, making each side of the table a different game.
