Photography Spotlight : Andile Buka

"My goal in my work is to make people aware of how beautiful they are, and to show them the beauty in places that they haven’t yet seen the beauty in. I grew up in Orange Farm and Soweto, and I never considered that as a stumbling block. I have always seen the beauty of the people around me and of the places I have lived. Other people don’t see that. They want to move. They think that things will be better elsewhere, but I don’t believe that place is the most important element to success. Wherever we are, it is the small acts we do daily that make us who we are. What matters is that you can see the beauty in yourself. In others. And in the world you live in. With my photographs, I want people to stop and reflect. To see the beauty of the places I shoot. And to show them their beauty as well. I want to reintroduce people to theirgreatness. To reintroduce them to happiness. To make them smile. To show them the brightness of their own light. We don’t need to look elsewhere for our greatness; we just have to look at ourselves with different eyes."
