Photography Spotlight : Soteeoh

Photographer's Statement:
'My photography is a personal exercise. Its how I meditate. I try to approach my street photography with a clear mind; no specific plan or intention, but rather just to be still and fully focused on my immediate surroundings at that exact time. To me this is the meaning of being present.
My approach to photography is to situate myself in an environment and then wait as scenes develop around me. patience is an integral part of the process and the moments in between photos are as important as the photos themselves. As I meditate I may take many snapshots that all represent a different instance and a different personal realization. The photos in this collection represent specific moments that brought with them key understandings, usually in the form of a reminder of something I had known previously but forgotten. When I allow myself to relax and take in my entire environment I begin to notice things that I didn't at first see. By reflecting certain aspects or placing them directly in the centre of focus I am trying to over emphasise these subtleties and share them with the viewer. Presence is devoting all of your energy into the thing you are doing at this exact moment. Your focus is no longer divided between what happened last night and what you're planning to do next week. Instead all of your energy is centred on what is happening right now. Its a very liberating and exhilarating feeling.'
