Andre Wagner : LIFE AS I SEE IT (Solo Show)

Artist Statement:
"Life as I see it, pure photography of people walking and living in this world. I'm interacting with life, saying yes to anything and everything that interests me.
It's my attempt to absorb the real world as it happens before my eyes. Shutter by shutter, I continue to learn and teach myself about who I am and how I feel.
We know that photographs are only a description of a time and a place, but sometimes the frame comes together to be that and so much more.
I believe that photographs should teach you what it means to be alive, and nothing could ever replace a freedom like that. It's about letting go of everything and following your instinct, a gut reaction, or almost thinking that you have an understanding of something before it actually happens.
For me photography is a way of life, and a day without it feels like a day not lived. But let's get to the atom. Truly, a picture has to deal with more than just a gut reaction or a passion for its subjects. It goes without saying and should reflect in the work. So when we get to the core,
all that is left is four edges surrounding facts. Photographically I'm exploring who we are as people, and doing my best to get out of the way so the images can do the teaching. If an image is complete it has the possibility of becoming anonymous, and with that we don't view images thinking about the photographer,
or the tool, or the aesthetic... but instead you get lost in the facts of reality. The beauty of photography, a single image full of ambiguity, a still moment that does everything other than remain flat. This is me giving you a raw view of what the camera saw; this is life as I see it. "
will be at Brooklyn Fireproof East on May 3rd, 2014 from 7pm to 11pm.
